Upcoming Meetings

Meeting Scheduled for 2023

Jan. 14 – (Zoom) Judy Granger will be our guest and present “Searching for Margaret Cutt in Ancient Piscataquay, and finding Shipwrights, Slave Holders and Plantation Owners across Four Generations”.  This study is a piece of inferential genealogy most centrally located in the Kittery, Maine area. Black women are often even more invisible than their husbands, and Margaret Cutt, the wife of Pomp Russell, might just be the exception, at least as to her beginnings, and her meeting and marrying Pomp Russell.  This research delves into the possibility of her surname and its connections to some of the oldest, wealthiest families of Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, NH,  including Cutts. Pepperrells, Brays, Gerrishes, and Elliots, …and the discovery of its connections to Judy’s ancestors.

  1. I am interested in forming/participating in a class for general genealogy research. I took a class with Wayne Smith probably 20 years ago and loved it. So much has changed in research methods. I’m not a Hancock county descendant so interested in global methods/internet use/record keeping/documentation. I have an entire bookcase of letters/notes/papers/books I inherited from a family member. I would like to get together with people who are also researching family and learn more about how to do this.

    1. There are a few of us who meet each Tuesday at 1:00 at the Bryant E. Moore Community Center in Room 215 on State Street in Ellsworth. We have a workshop facilitated by Terry Meehan who has done extensive work on his family history. He has shared his research journey with us and has introduced ways of organizing research files. We all help each other. There are usually just 2-3 of us here. You are welcome to come
